The Persian Gulf's whales :

The Green Front of IRAN (GFI) Warns:

At the beginning of the whale's year the danger of disappearance is threatening the Persian Gulf's whales.

Whales are mammals and they aren't categorized among fish. Whales were in their present form from 25 million years ago. They are the most powerful animals in the world due to their 150 ton weight. Their skin is covered by a layer of fat which is about 30 cm. Whales can swim in water depths of 100 meters. Males can live about 60 years while females live into their 80s.

In Eskandar's itinerary, Arian a Greek annalist as well as in Nearak diary written in 326 B.C, it was said that Eskandar's commanders had faced the Persian Gulf's whales in Ahvaz in a discovery journey which extended from Send river to Karoon river. Five different types of whales live in the Persian Gulf today.

According to a recent report by Green Front of IRAN, the whales of the Persian Gulf and the Oman Sea are being seriously threatened by oil pollutions. The Green Front of IRAN asks international organizations and Persian Gulf' coastal states to take measures to protect this ancient animal, keeping in mind the fact that when it comes to alleviating environmental problems tomorrow is often too late.
